We’ve known Tom, one of the owners of Honest Grapes, since pretty close to the inception of UJ (2002). Under the name WineChap, he initially wrote columns and other wine wisdoms for us, and over the years he’s given us top tips for South Africa, introduced us to the joy that is Burgundy Breakfast, and is our go-to if we need recommendations on anything wine related.
More recently, Tom co-founded Honest Grapes, a company that began out of a conversation with wine enthusiasts, professionals and friends discussing the need for a site that had quality, reasonably priced wines, and a community feel. Honest Grapes supports independent growers, small wineries and producers, which of course sits well with us, and their wine club has recently been awarded Decanter’s Best Subscription Wine Club – you can accrue points until you want to spend them, you don’t have to spend them monthly.
If you get a chance, go to one of their tasting/buying nights too; you’ll always meet likeminded people who are enthusiastic about wine in a palatable way. Honest Grapes are passionate about the industry and about wine, and it shows.
